THE 5 BROWNS AFTER HOURS BLOW OUT AT DAYNES, MARCH 9
A Good Time Had By All, Especially Aspiring Young Pianists
"These kids are great!" That's how we old timers, i.e., the parents and teachers, felt about this intimate event, held after-hours at Daynes Music, March 9. But we weren't only referring to the amazing talents, times five, of the youthful, bouyant, and native born piano ensemble, known internationally as "The 5 Browns" (three of whom are great looking too, which is not to say that the two males of the ensemble don't have that certain "je ne sais qua"), but also to our young piano students who attended and came away beaming. The event was held in the main Steinway showroom. After a brief intro, The 5 Browns each selected a piano, sat down, made eye contact with each other, and then got right into it. The rest of us found chairs, piano benches, or sat on the floor, and thoroughly enjoyed several pieces, including "Hall of the Moutain King," and selections from Holst's "The Planets," a cosmic experience. Each of the 5 Browns answered question after question, mainly from unabashed youngsters, with whom they were encouraging, enthusiastic, funny, and gracious. True artists. They signed their book, Life Between the Keys, and signed sheet music. We've provided some snaps from the event here.
