July 2009
INTRODUCTION

Summer is now in full swing, and so are numerous musical events around Salt Lake City, and elsewhere in Utah. About a week ago, Snow College, Ephraim, Utah, staged its Julliard Jazz Exchange Workshops and Concerts, I hope you got a chance to see all or some of it. The musicians/faculty from Julliard were simply amazing. As a member of the Board of Trustees at Snow College, I'd helped to arrange this exchange, which also sends top students from Snow College to New York to study at this most prestigious of music schools. On July 21, Roger "Mr. Piano" Williams will be performing a benefit at Libby Gardner Hall at the University of Utah (details below). There are so many more events, so be sure to check out our community links page. I'd also like to call your attention to the Melodeon article this month on the "Ladies in Red" (below). These five great young musicians are undertaking to bring music education back into the core curriculum in Utah schools, and they're using their talents and skills as pianists to make it happen. Finally, this month, Jared Jaccard, another fine young pianist and employee at Daynes Music, has picked out five new sheet music selections for those hot summer days. Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Skip Daynes
President
Daynes Music Company, Inc.

(Editors Note: Our chief Melodeon guy, Mel Odeon, took a sabbatical last month. We're told, however, that he's tanned, rested, and ready for more. Thanks for your patience and continued interest.)
