Russell Sorensen – Steinway Piano Technician

Russell Sorensen

Russell Sorensen is best known for his work as a concert technician. He specializes in the Steinway piano and regularly maintains as many as 75 Steinway 9’ concert grands in performance venues, universities, and homes around Utah. He is the head technician for the Utah Symphony. Russell also travels to California on a regular basis to help maintain the Steinway concert fleet in LA. Russell enjoys restoring vintage Steinways to like-new condition. Not many people know their way around inside a Steinway piano like he does. Russell is Steinway factory trained and the most prolific rebuilder of Steinway Pianos in the state of Utah. BMUS, Brigham Young University, Piano Performance.

Hyrum Weibell – Steinway Piano Technician, DBA Salt Lake Piano Service Company


Hyrum has been servicing pianos for over 13 years and working with Daynes Music Company since March of 2011. He holds both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Brigham Young University with an emphasis in Vocal Performance. He has completed all offered factory training courses from Steinway and Sons in Long Island City, New York. While Steinway is, of course, Hyrum’s favorite make of piano, he has also participated in manufacturer training from the Yamaha Corporation in Buena Park, California and a week-long rebuilding training from the Mason and Hamlin company.

Hyrum owns and operates Salt Lake Piano Service Company which currently serves many clients including the Utah Symphony, International Gina Bachauer Competition, and Utah State University. Working with his associate technicians, Taylor Packer, and Peter Critchley, and administrative manager, Holly Marianno, he offers tuning, repair, restringing, and action rebuilding services. Hyrum is considered one of the best Steinway factory trained technicians and is currently a regional specialist in servicing the new SPIRIO pianos developed by Steinway and Sons.

Duncan Peterson – Steinway Piano Technician, Serving the Provo Area

Duncan Peterson

Duncan has been servicing pianos since 2003, is a Registered Piano Technician and has enjoyed association with Daynes Music since 2013.  He began playing the trumpet at age 10 and the piano shortly thereafter, quickly finding a love for music.  He holds a BA in Music from BYU where he studied Organ Performance, while also working as a pipe organ builder for 2 1/2 years at M.L. Bigelow & Co. Organs in American Fork.  He has completed the Steinway factory weeklong training courses in Regulation as well as in Voicing.  

In addition to Daynes, Duncan also services pianos for Murray School District, Salt Lake Community College, and many in-home clients throughout the Wasatch Front.

Andrew Swan – Piano Technician

Andrew Swan, Piano Technician

Andrew Swan has over 25 years of experience as a piano technician. His initial training as an apprentice in 1990 led to a long-term position with a large piano dealer in the Washington, DC area. His work there encompassed major repairs and rebuilding almost exclusively, including pinblock, bridge, and soundboard replacement. In this position, he was responsible for warranty repairs for Schimmel and Bösendorfer pianos. Andrew performed extensive work at the Schimmel factory in Braunschweig, Germany and also attended technical training at Fazioli pianos in Sacile, Italy. After relocating to Utah in 2002, Andrew was the Piano Service Manager at a local piano dealer for several years before building his own tuning and repair business, serving many loyal customers throughout the Salt Lake valley. He is the official piano technician for The Gifted Music School and also donates his time and services to the Mundi Project.

Ron Jensen – Piano Technician

Ron Jensen, Piano Technician

Ron was born and raised in the Salt Lake City area. He began playing the piano at an early age, starting formal lessons at the age of four. He enjoys all types of music, but especially loves to play and listen to Jazz. Ron has performed as a Jazz musician throughout the Western United states and is renowned for his unique arrangements. Ron has worked as a recommended technician for Daynes Music for more than 15 years. His clientele include UVU, USU, JAZZ SLC, Red Butte Gardens, Travis Air force Base, Capital Theater, Rose Wagner Theater, the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, and the Utah Symphony. Ron’s tuning career has extended over 30 years.

Stan Taylor – Piano Technician, St. George, Utah


The best trained and most experienced piano technician servicing southern Utah.  Stan is the technician of choice for DSU, SUU and nearly all performance venues in southern Utah. He is also the only technician endorsed by Daynes Music in the St George area. You will not find a more considerate and skilled technician to service your piano in the unique climate of Southern Utah. Stan is most notably known for his concert work with the “Piano Guys”.
